Aloof v Pokemon

The National Jewish Advocacy Center (NJAC) has announced the filing of a federal civil rights lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Central District of California alleging unlawful discrimination against a Jewish Israeli-American competitive player in organized Pokémon tournaments.

The complaint, filed on behalf of professional player Dov Aloof, alleges that The Pokémon Company International, Inc. violated federal and state civil rights laws by restricting or denying equal participation opportunities in organized Pokémon competitive events based on national origin and related identity.

Aloof is a Jewish Israeli-American competitive Pokémon player who has been active in advocating for equal participation rights for Israeli competitors in international Pokémon tournaments, including players who hold U.S. citizenship. The lawsuit alleges that actions taken by the defendant interfered with Aloof’s ability to participate in sanctioned tournaments and competitive events.
